Basic principles

The XIAnet architecture is currently focussed on the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the Covid-19 disease. But the mathematical model in the server software works on key parameters from a disease database and can be also used for any other pandemic infection.

Technical features in a glance

How XIAnet is working

  • When an infection is reported or one checks his/her status, the current contact list is sent to the trust center.
  • Trust center crawls the contact chains, checking multi-level references to infected people.
  • If a contact belongs to another country (=trust center) the grid is going to share multi-country contact relations on a need-to-know basis (only directly connected contacts).
  • At no time a trust center is able to know to whom a contact ID belongs to.
  • The only information sent to the trust center is the anonymous unique ID, the contact’s IDs, the date and duration of the contact.
  • We value your data privacy! At no given point in time any party will be able to read your personal information, location or that of your contacts.
  • Based on infection status, severity, contact level and some disease key data, a personal risk score is calculated by a mathematical model.

App developers

As an app developer you can create your app based on the principles below.

  • 1. Bluetooth
    Use bluetooth to share contact IDs, date and duration only when they are in infection range for longer than half a minute.
  • 2. Summarize
    Condense contact list per day and store locally in the devices secure store. Save only the contacts UUID, the date and the cumulated contact duration. And delete list entries elder then the maximum incubation period.
  • 3. Ask for Symptoms or a TAN
    Ask user for symptoms or a TAN provided by a test center or doctor. TANs are provided by the trust centers only to official test centers, doctors and clinics. The user receives an individual TAN together with the test result or the diagnosis.
  • 4. Send status and contact list
    Send the local contact list and the user status to the trust center using our API. In return you will receive the individual risk score and information about critical contacts. You should do this only by request of the user or cyclically when specified in the apps setup. The cycles should be more than 2 hours.
  • 5. Notification
    When the risk score exceeds a level entered by the user in the app setup, send a push notification to the user and give behavior advices according to the risk level and the recommendations of the national health authorities.
  • 6. Earn?
    You are allowed to make money with your app. It's your decision if you like to do so or if you like to donate the app.

Government / Heath authorities

As a national government or heath authority, it’s up to you to setup a national trust center. It will be a public cloud server serving as the backbone for the infection alert apps.

Governments can profit from this by increasing the test efficiency and detecting infection chains. The ability to warn users can support a better timed isolation strategy and help kick-start the economy earlier than expected.

    Find a hosting provider for your national trust center server.

    Set up agreements with other countries to share multinational contact relations with their trust centers. Setup the technical connection on your trust center server.
  • 6. Publish
    Publish that your server is online and ready for use for mobile apps.
